Banana Smoothie
Description
A deceptively simple smoothie that relies on frozen banana chunks to create a thick, ice-cream-like texture — no ice cubes needed. Lightly customizable with add-ins like peanut butter, cocoa powder, or berries while keeping the focus clean and delicious.
Ingredients
- 2 large ripe bananas, peeled, sliced into chunks, and frozen solid
- 1 cup milk of choice (dairy, oat, almond, or soy)
- ¼–½ cup plain Greek yogurt (optional, for extra creaminess and protein)
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (add more only if your bananas aren't very ripe and sweet)
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- A pinch of ground cinnamon (optional)
- Add-ins: 1 tablespoon peanut butter, a handful of frozen berries, or 1 scoop protein powder
Instructions
- Place frozen banana chunks in a tall blender jar first (this helps the blades grip).
- Pour in milk over the bananas. If using yogurt, honey, vanilla, cinnamon, and any desired add-ins, add them now.
- Blend on medium-high speed for 45–60 seconds, stopping to scrape down the sides with a spatula if needed. The smoothie should be thick but pourable. If too thick, add milk 1 tablespoon at a time until smooth.
- Pour into two glasses and serve immediately. Garnish with sliced fresh banana or a drizzle of honey if desired.
Notes
- Freezing bananas is key. Peel ripe bananas (the spottier the sweeter), slice them into chunks, lay on a baking sheet to freeze individually, then store in a ziplock bag for up to 3 months. This avoids icy dilution from using ice cubes.
- For a tropical twist: swap half the banana chunks for frozen mango or pineapple.
- Protein boost: add a scoop of vanilla or unflavored protein powder plus 1 tablespoon chia seeds.
- Best consumed right away — smoothies naturally separate if left sitting. Give it a stir before drinking.
